The Johnny Manziel comparisons are obvious and somewhat warranted when it comes to Baker Mayfield, but his production is simply amazing. After winning the Heisman Trophy, Mayfield will go into the College Football Playoff on New Year’s Day as college football’s most exciting player. Even though Mayfield’s listed at 6’1″, he’s believed to be just short of six feet. If I’m a general manager, I’m not letting Mayfield’s height deter me from drafting a possible franchise quarterback.
Mayfield can make all of the NFL throws as his arm strength is above average. He’s got an incredibly quick release and completes 70% of his passes. He can slide in the pocket, he can throw on the run, and he can launch the ball sixty yards down the field with ease. Mayfield isn’t a fast runner but he’s shifty and has great escape ability. Between his overwhelming accuracy, strong arm, and quick feet, Mayfield has been able to put up insane numbers the last three years at Oklahoma.
NFL Comparison: Andrew Luck
Between their physical similarities and arm strength, Mayfield has the potential to be a Drew Brees type of quarterback for years to come. After the NFL Combine and after his team interviews, I see Baker Mayfield going in the top 20 picks of the 2018 NFL Draft.
